My Testimonial
Dear Sigma Chi Scholarship Foundation:
First off, I would like to take the time to thank the Sigma Chi Scholarship Foundation for awarding me the William Lewis Lockwood Founders Scholarship, as well as Chuck and Kim Watson for their generous donation. You have no idea how much this means to my family and me.
Throughout college, and basically throughout my whole life, I have competed to put myself in a position for success. I hold myself to higher standards than anyone but have tried to surround myself with peers that hold themselves to similar standards. That’s why I give major credit to our Iota Lambda Chapter at University of Louisville. We expect nothing but the best from each other and hold each and every person accountable. This has created a contagious attitude within our chapter that encourages academic excellence and high morals.
I know that there will always be hardships in life. That will always be a given. Although, along with hardship brings opportunity; The opportunity to battle and overcome.
This is why it means everything to me to be a Sigma Chi. My parents instilled high morals in me ever since I was young, and I have carried these with me through all of my ventures. I have always been encouraged to shoot for the stars and believe in myself, even through hardship.
I have not been financially comfortable ever since I have been in college. It has been a constant struggle and worry about how I am going to afford undergrad, as well as post-graduate for law school. With this scholarship, I can proudly say this has put me in a position I have never been in before. This scholarship will do nothing but motivate me to do better, as well as propelling me even closer to my goals.
To say I am happy is an understatement. I am ecstatic. All I ever have wanted in college was to be able to focus on my individual path without having to worry about financial stress. This scholarship has helped me achieve this. I will finally be able to put all my blood, sweat, and tears into my goals without having the looming worry of money on me.
With saying all of this, I want to reiterate how much I thank this fraternity and organization. It Is an amazing thing to have an organization that believes so greatly in my abilities and future. This is a bond that will never be broken. I am always proud to be a Sigma Chi.
Sincerely,
Silas Cooper Yancey
